Most Reverend Excellency:
I received your esteemed letter of last October that filled me with consolation in seeing the apostolic zeal of Your Excellency for the poor Italian immigrants. God bless you, Monsignor, and reward you as He does for the charity you use for so many poor people.
In sending the Missionaries for New Orleans last November 21, I added one for New York, with orders for the Superior there to assign him, after some time, to Cincinnati, placing to the complete disposal of Your Excellency. If, however, it were not possible to take away from New York this father because of the great needs of that Community, I will take care to satisfy the holy desires of Your Excellency as soon as possible.
In the meantime I congratulate you: you write Italian well, as an Italian. I wish you most happy Christmas Holydays and with affectionate veneration I remain
