1. Quigley to Scalabrini30
The two priests who are to take Father Martinelli’s post have arrived, and I am well pleased with them. I am quite confident that they will meet with the kindest reception from the Italian Congregation.
I must thank you my dear Monsignor for your special kindness toward the Italian Colony in Buffalo and I trust that when you visit us again you will find it in better condition. Father Martinelli has left us for his new mission, and I wish him from the bottom of my heart every blessing and success. He won the esteem of Bishop, priests, and people here in Buffalo, and
by his firmness of character and ability as a preacher placed the Italian Congregation on a solid foundation. It remains for us now to build upon that foundation. I shall cooperate to the extent of my power and means with the two young priests you have been so good as to send us, and I shall most willingly aid them in carrying out any measures which you and your representatives may deem good for the Colony here in Buffalo.
I wish you the most pleasant voyage on the Atlantic, and I hope that it shall not be long until we see you amongst us again.
Yours fraternally in Christ,
