Letter of His Excellency the Archbishop of Palermo to His Eminence Cardinal Simeoni, Prefect of the S. Congregation of Propaganda.

As soon as I received from Your M. R. Eminence the venerable letter of the seventh of the month, n. 1527, regarding the measures to be taken for the continuous lamented migrations, which are certain to damage the poor deceived people both in their good behavior and religion, I took care to consult some ecclesiastical persons. In promising me their aid, they suggested to me excellent lay persons who, because of their position, will be able to give valuable assistance. When I will ascertain that a good number of these persons will accept this charitable task, according to the wishes of Your M.R. Eminence, I will form a committee that, following certain norms, will work for the good of all those who decide to migrate. So as to better reach the purpose and so that the action of the committee be in conformity with the spirit of those who inspired it, I beg Your M.R. Eminence, to make available, if you see fit, a copy of the statues or rules of the Society of St. Raphael.

            I assure you of my deepest veneration. I bow to kiss the sacred purple and I confirm myself a very humble servant of Your M.R. Eminence.
