Your Excellency,
Do not be surprised that I delayed until today my answer to your May
25th letter. However, I did not delay informing the Holy Father of its contents. His Holiness was in agreement with what you had told me and was very pleased. However, he asked me to tell you that he trusts you will continue to be vigilant with your Missionaries in America so that they do not offer the slightest pretext to the accusations I made known to you in a previous letter. In carrying out this charge of the Holy Father, I also wish to take the occasion to confirm my highest esteem of you.
