9. Corrigan to Scalabrini28

         New York, May 28, 1888

The bearer of this letter is the Rev. Marcellino Moroni, Apostolic Missionary of the diocese of Cremona. He came here last October and has done an immense good for the Italian colony in this city. Now, for reasons of health, and on the advice of his doctor, he feels obliged to return to his country.

As for me, his departure is a very grievous loss. However, in the hope that Father Marcellino’s health will be restored under a milder sky than the American, and bearing testimony to the priestly virtues, behavior and untiring zeal of this missionary, I entrust you with these lines of sincere recommendation.

Michael Augustine,

Archbishop of New York

28 AGS DH18–02/1(copy. Archbishop Corrigan gives his positive evaluation of the work of Father M. Moroni and this letter was given to Bishop Scalabrini.
