28. Scalabrini to Corrigan63

         Levico, July 1, 1890

Dear and Esteemed Archbishop:

Your last letter, which announces the longed for moment to make your personal acquaintance, has brought me great consolation.

I am not surprised at all at the reasons that have delayed your coming since I know Rome very well.

            My health is gradually improving.

The doctor here has ordered me to go to Rabbi, a resort not too far from Levico, but at a higher elevation. I shall go there next week. I think it will also be better for Your Excellency and for Don Carlo. There we can stay at least for some weeks in holy freedom and without too many troubles.

The itinerary is the same as before, that is, Milano-Verona-Trent-San Michele. From San Michele you reach Rabbi by carriage that will await you if you will send me a telegram indicating the time of your arrival in San Michele.

It will be well to take your luggage with you with a shipment receipt to Ala which is on the border and where the Austrian custom guards examine it.

Kindly indicate, Monsignor, as soon as possible the approximate period of time you expect to stay in Rabbi so that I may reserve a room for you in time since rooms are very much in demand. We shall plan together our return to Piacenza.

I am happy about the honor conferred on Don Carlo and I send him my most sincere congratulations.

I embrace you, Venerable Archbishop, in osculo sancto and recommend myself to your prayers. With sincere gratitude I am,

Your very devoted and affectionate Servant and Confrere,

Gio. Battista Bishop of Piacenza
