29. Corrigan to Scalabrini64

         New York, November 14, 1890

Most Reverend Excellency:

When I was in Rome I wrote to the Director of the Catechista Cattolico asking him to send me the bill. I have not received it yet. Now I cannot remember the exact number of issues nor the period of time for which I have to pay. Therefore, I am sending you a check for 1,000 lire begging you to transmit it to the right person and then to let me know if there is still a balance to be paid.

After a happy crossing, Don Carlo and I arrived home on September 10. Since that day I have been busier than ever: the Pastoral Visitation, Confirmations, and many other activities. I have not forgotten my promise to write something about our method of teaching Catechism. But up to now, my dear Bishop, it has been impossible to find a free moment.

The Fathers are doing well. Now they want to buy a new and better location for a second church at the cost of 410,000 lire. Yesterday they brought me the papers for my approval.

I would have much to tell you, but I have no time now because tomorrow, too, I continue the Pastoral Visitation and tonight I have still many letters to write.

Recommending myself warmly to your prayers, I remain

Your Excellency’s very humble and devoted servant,

Michael Augustine, Archbishop.
