51. Corrigan to Scalabrini¹¹⁴

         New York, December 4, 1896

Your Excellency:

Father Giuseppe Strumia, Rector of St. Joachim Church in New York, returns to Italy to visit his mother about whom he recently received unfavorable news about her health. Since it is a question of fulfilling a filial duty, I have nothing to say. But I dare to express to Your excellency my desire that this priest may come back as soon as possible as rector of St. Joachim Church. He has done new and great works in that church and I believe that, if not necessary, his presence and leadership will be quite advantageous to provide a favorable financial base to the church.
