7.    Murray to Scalabrini9

         Hartford, July 20, 1904

Most Reverend Bishop:

Our Most esteemed Bishop Michael Tierney with the greatest appreciation for your attention toward our students staying in your episcopal seminary hopes very much that it may be possible to admit four or five students next September.10

Since the climate of Bedonia is so healthy for the Americans coming from this area, His Excellency would be very grateful if some or all of our students could be accepted in the seminary of Bedonia as you already proposed in your last letter.

I pray God that he may keep your Lordship in good health for a long time.

Given as above, your most humble servant in Christ,

James S. Murray

Secretary

10 The preparation of American diocesan priests in Bishop Scalabrini’s seminaries in Italy was another pastoral practice he adopted to facilitate ministry among the immigrants by clergy knowledgeable in their language and mentality.
