 1 9|   Francis in taming the fierce wolf of Gubbio.~At the time when
 2 9|        city of Gubbio, a large wolf appeared in the neighbourhood,
 3 9|       and, through fear of the wolf, they dared not go beyond
 4 9|    resolved to go and meet the wolf, though all advised him
 5 9|      toward the spot where the wolf was known to be, while many
 6 9|     witnessed the miracle. The wolf, seeing all this multitude,
 7 9|     out: "Come hither, brother wolf; I command thee, in the
 8 9|       cross, than the terrible wolf, closing his jaws, stopped
 9 9|        addressed him: "Brother wolf, thou hast done much evil
10 9|       them and thee, O brother wolf, is so be thou no more offend
11 9|   listened to these words, the wolf bowed his head, and, by
12 9|        this promise?" Then the wolf, bowing his head, made a
13 9|        Francis again: "Brother wolf, wilt thou pledge thy faith
14 9|     received the pledge of the wolf; for the latter lifted up
15 9| addressing him again: "Brother wolf, I command thee, in the
16 9|      the name of God"; and the wolf, obeying him, walked by
17 9|      to see St Francis and the wolf. All the people being assembled,
18 9|       ever, than the rage of a wolf, which can kill the body
19 9|        so small an animal as a wolf can make a whole city tremble
20 9|        Listen my brethren: the wolf who is here before you has
21 9|     with one voice to feed the wolf to the end of his days;
22 9|      again: "And thou, brother wolf, dost thou promise to keep
23 9|       other creature?" And the wolf knelt down, bowing his head,
24 9|    Francis continued: "Brother wolf, as thou gavest me a pledge
25 9|  promise in thy name"; and the wolf lifting up his paw placed
26 9|        been concluded with the wolf; and they lifted up their
