 1 Craty|          definite notion. But he means to express generally that
 2 Craty|     explain to him what Cratylus means; or, far rather, he would
 3 Craty|         really the same,—the one means a king, and the other is ‘
 4 Craty|         Hesiod, and by golden he means not literally golden, but
 5 Craty|        an old form of ousia, and means the first principle of things:
 6 Craty|   mechane, apo tou mekous, which means polu, and anein, I shall
 7 Craty|          is really demiodes, and means that which binds motion (
 8 Craty|        in your presence, what he means by the fitness of names?’
 9 Craty| knowledge of language. But if he means that the word or the meaning
10 Craty|       Socrates, what this oracle means; or rather tell me, if you
11 Craty|       only making fun of you;—he means to say that you are no true
12 Craty|        the shuttle well—and well means like a weaver? and the teacher
13 Craty|       use the name well—and well means like a teacher?~HERMOGENES:
14 Craty|         think; and what the poet means by correctness may be more
15 Craty|         to win Hippodamia by all means for his bride. Every one
16 Craty|           Why, I suppose that he means by the golden men, not men

18 Craty|           Ploutos), and his name means the giver of wealth, which
19 Craty|       this; whereas the new name means only that the Goddess is
20 Craty|      Homeric word emesato, which means ‘he contrived’—out of these
21 Craty|       these sort of Gods, by all means, Socrates. But why should
22 Craty|  language of Homer (Od.) gegaasi means gegennesthai.~HERMOGENES:
23 Craty|        and the whole proposition means that his power of reviewing
24 Craty|         chain (desmos), for lian means strength, and therefore
25 Craty|        you.~SOCRATES: I am by no means positive, Cratylus, in the
