 1  Gorg|           not that the rhetorician ought to abuse this power any

23  Gorg|           just now said, every man ought in every way to guard himself
24  Gorg|           he cares, does wrong, he ought of his own accord to go
25  Gorg|        that instead of excusing he ought to accuse—himself above

27  Gorg|   gentleman and a person of honour ought to know; he is inexperienced
28  Gorg|          and in the language which ought to be used in the dealings
29  Gorg|            the things of which you ought to be careful; and that
30  Gorg|            or evil of the soul, he ought to have three qualities—
31  Gorg|        censure me for making,—What ought the character of a man to
32  Gorg|         ten thousand fools, and he ought to rule them, and they ought
33  Gorg|       ought to rule them, and they ought to be his subjects, and
34  Gorg|            be his subjects, and he ought to have more than they should.
35  Gorg|      CALLICLES: Yes.~SOCRATES: And ought not the better to have a
36  Gorg|       coats—the skilfullest weaver ought to have the largest coat,
37  Gorg|           and best in making shoes ought to have the advantage in
38  Gorg|     administration of a state—they ought to be the rulers of their
39  Gorg|            he who would truly live ought to allow his desires to
40  Gorg| rightly-developed man the passions ought not to be controlled, but
41  Gorg|          To be sure.~SOCRATES: And ought we not to choose and use
42  Gorg|           of others, worse, and we ought to gratify the one and not
43  Gorg|            and unholy, her desires ought to be controlled, and she
44  Gorg|          to be controlled, and she ought to be prevented from doing
45  Gorg|      supposition that the argument ought to be completed; but if
46  Gorg|         follow or to avoid what he ought not, but what he ought,
47  Gorg|          he ought not, but what he ought, whether things or men or
48  Gorg|        patiently to endure when he ought; and therefore, Callicles,
49  Gorg|          to be the aim which a man ought to have, and towards which
50  Gorg|         have, and towards which he ought to direct all the energies
51  Gorg|            men; you think that you ought to cultivate inequality
52  Gorg|     earnest when I said that a man ought to accuse himself and his
53  Gorg|       would truly be a rhetorician ought to be just and have a knowledge
54  Gorg|    declaring and insisting that we ought all of us to be engine-makers,
