Dialogue

 1 Parme|     the idea? And if the world partakes in the ideas, and the ideas
 2 Parme|        thousand ways, the like partakes of the unlike, the many
 3 Parme|     the one is. If one is, one partakes of being, which is not the
 4 Parme|       for all and every number partakes of being; therefore being
 5 Parme|       acknowledged, if the one partakes of being. For ‘to be’ is
 6 Parme|      at which one as being one partakes of being, and a time when
 7 Parme| therefore the one which is not partakes of equality. Further, the
 8 Parme| not-being; or more truly being partakes of the being of being and
 9 Parme|  meaning.~Then each individual partakes either of the whole of the
10 Parme|      idea resembles that which partakes of it?~Quite true.~The theory,
11 Parme|      is equivalent to saying, ‘partakes of being’?~Quite true.~Once
12 Parme| direction?~We say that the one partakes of being and therefore it
13 Parme|      the one which, as we say, partakes of being, and try to imagine
14 Parme|        of which, as we say, it partakes—will this abstract one be
15 Parme|  infinite in multiplicity, and partakes also of being: am I not
16 Parme|         Then the one, since it partakes of being, partakes of time?~
17 Parme|    since it partakes of being, partakes of time?~Certainly.~And
18 Parme|   Certainly.~But since the one partakes of time, and partakes of
19 Parme|      one partakes of time, and partakes of becoming older and younger,
20 Parme|       Impossible.~Then the one partakes and does not partake of
21 Parme|      clear.~But for that which partakes of nothing to partake of
22 Parme|        is not is something and partakes of relation to ‘that,’ and ‘
23 Parme|        Of course.~Then the one partakes of inequality, and in respect
24 Parme|    Then the one, which is not, partakes, as would appear, of greatness
25 Parme|        not-being is when being partakes of the being of being, and
26 Parme|       true.~Since then what is partakes of not-being, and what is
27 Parme|        not, since it in no way partakes of being, neither perishes
