 1 Phaedo|        and returning hither, are born again from the dead. Now
 2 Phaedo|         how could they have been born again? And this would be
 3 Phaedo|         that the living are only born from the dead; but if this
 4 Phaedo|        senses as soon as we were born?~Certainly.~Then we must
 5 Phaedo|        is to say, before we were born, I suppose?~True.~And if
 6 Phaedo|         knowledge before we were born, and were born having the
 7 Phaedo|    before we were born, and were born having the use of it, then
 8 Phaedo|         also knew before we were born and at the instant of birth
 9 Phaedo|     knowledge?—not since we were born as men?~Certainly not.~And
10 Phaedo|        are not in us when we are born—that is admitted. Do we
11 Phaedo|      have existed before we were born, as that our souls existed
12 Phaedo|     souls existed before we were born; and if not the ideas, then
13 Phaedo| admitting that she may have been born elsewhere, and framed out
14 Phaedo|     souls existed before we were born:—that the soul will exist
15 Phaedo|        that everything living is born of the dead. For if the
16 Phaedo|         coming to life and being born can be born only from death
17 Phaedo|       life and being born can be born only from death and dying,
18 Phaedo|       exist, since she has to be born again?—Surely the proof
19 Phaedo|         after death, and will be born and die again and again,
20 Phaedo|       which will hold out and be born many times—nevertheless,
