Dialogue

 1 Repub|      begin. Behold, he said, the wisdom of Socrates; he refuses
 2 Repub|        wrong; if so, you in your wisdom should convince us that
 3 Repub|         you class injustice with wisdom and virtue, and justice
 4 Repub|  hesitate to rank injustice with wisdom and virtue. ~You have guessed
 5 Repub|      that justice was virtue and wisdom, and injustice vice and
 6 Repub|      having been identified with wisdom and virtue, is easily shown
 7 Repub|        your view, and justice is wisdom, then only with justice;
 8 Repub|        single person, would your wisdom say that she loses or that
 9 Repub|    whether justice is virtue and wisdom, or evil and folly; and
10 Repub|          of learning the love of wisdom, which is philosophy? ~They
11 Repub|          by nature be a lover of wisdom and knowledge? ~That we
12 Repub|         there is, I think, small wisdom in legislating about such
13 Repub|      virtues found in the State, wisdom comes into view, and in
14 Repub|    knowledge worthy to be called wisdom, has been ordained by nature
15 Repub|         the virtuous desires and wisdom of the few. ~That I perceive,
16 Repub| temperance is unlike courage and wisdom, each of which resides in
17 Repub|         be stronger or weaker in wisdom, or power, or numbers, or
18 Repub|       temperance and courage and wisdom are abstracted; and, that
19 Repub|       true nature of dangers, or wisdom and watchfulness in the
20 Repub|         other political virtues, wisdom, temperance, courage. ~Yes,
21 Repub| knowledge which presides over it wisdom, and that which at any time
22 Repub|     plucking ~"A fruit of unripe wisdom," ~and he himself is ignorant
23 Repub|          political greatness and wisdom meet in one, and those commoner
24 Repub|          lover, not of a part of wisdom only, but of the whole? ~
25 Repub|    opinion rather than lovers of wisdom, and will they be very angry
26 Repub|       are to be called lovers of wisdom and not lovers of opinion. ~
27 Repub|      there anything more akin to wisdom than truth? ~How can there
28 Repub|        same nature be a lover of wisdom and a lover of falsehood? ~
29 Repub|    assemblies; and this is their wisdom. I might compare them to
30 Repub|           he calls his knowledge wisdom, and makes of it a system
31 Repub|          does he who thinks that wisdom is the discernment of the
32 Repub|        worthy of or akin to true wisdom? ~No doubt, he said. ~Then,
33 Repub|         temperance, courage, and wisdom? ~Indeed, he said, if I
34 Repub|          old habitation, and the wisdom of the den and his fellow-prisoners,
35 Repub|          exercise, the virtue of wisdom more than anything else
36 Repub|          gold, but in virtue and wisdom, which are the true blessings
37 Repub|  fecundity and sterility all the wisdom and education of your rulers
38 Repub|       the soul in the pursuit of wisdom and virtue, may be rightly
39 Repub|      fame. ~Far less. ~"Lover of wisdom," "lover of knowledge,"
40 Repub|         classes of men-lovers of wisdom, lovers of honor, lovers

43 Repub|        honor of the pleasures of wisdom? ~Nay, he said, all three

45 Repub|         But since experience and wisdom and reason are the judges - ~
46 Repub|         approved by the lover of wisdom and reason are the truest. ~
47 Repub|       soul? ~True. ~And food and wisdom are the corresponding satisfactions
48 Repub|        Those, then, who know not wisdom and virtue, and are always
49 Repub|          win the pleasures which wisdom shows them, will also have
50 Repub|        better be ruled by divine wisdom dwelling within him; or,
51 Repub|       justice and temperance and wisdom, more than the body ever
52 Repub|          greatly beloved for his wisdom, and whose followers are
53 Repub|     Where, then? ~At her love of wisdom. Let us see whom she affects,
54 Repub|      those who were not saved by wisdom drank more than was necessary;
