 1 Repub|        them virtue and the other vice? ~Certainly. ~I suppose
 2 Repub|     justice virtue and injustice vice? ~What a charming notion!
 3 Repub|       And would you call justice vice? ~No, I would rather say
 4 Repub|        by you as by others to be vice and deformity, an answer
 5 Repub|        and wisdom, and injustice vice and ignorance, I proceeded
 6 Repub|        and that the pleasures of vice and injustice are easy of
 7 Repub|        now smoothing the path of vice with the words of Hesiod: ~"
 8 Repub|      with the words of Hesiod: ~"Vice may be had in abundance
 9 Repub|       this said about virtue and vice, and the way in which gods
10 Repub|        or bad; for madness, like vice, is to be known but not
11 Repub| exhibiting the opposite forms of vice and intemperance and meanness
12 Repub|          man, but the other; for vice cannot know virtue too,
13 Repub|     knowledge both of virtue and vice: the virtuous, and not the
14 Repub|     ignorance, and every form of vice? ~Exactly so. ~And if the
15 Repub|      well-being of the soul, and vice the disease, and weakness,
16 Repub|    virtue, and evil practices to vice? ~Assuredly. ~Still our
17 Repub|        escape from injustice and vice; assuming them both to be
18 Repub|      behold the various forms of vice, those of them, I mean,
19 Repub|       one, but that the forms of vice are innumerable; there being
20 Repub|      sight but that of folly and vice, or seriously inclines to
21 Repub|       cherisher of every sort of vice, and the consequence is
22 Repub|          criterion of virtue and vice, happiness and misery. ~

24 Repub|  dissolves and dies? ~True. ~The vice and evil which are inherent
25 Repub|          if the inherent natural vice or evil of the soul is unable
