 1 Intro|       ideas, was making truth and falsehood equally impossible. It has
 2 Intro| possibility of false opinion; for falsehood is that which is not, and
 3 Intro|           of Plato’s in which the falsehood of all mankind is reflected.~
 4 Intro|          which could imagine that falsehood had no existence, if reality
 5 Intro|       truth be distinguished from falsehood? The Eleatic philosopher
 6 Intro|           and their conception of falsehood was really impaired and
 7 Intro|   Not-being, and therefore not to falsehood, which is the image or expression
 8 Intro|          expression of Not-being. Falsehood is wholly false; and to
 9 Intro|       false; and to speak of true falsehood, as Theaetetus does (Theaet.),
10 Intro|  Euthydemus. It is a confusion of falsehood and negation, from which
11 Intro|       forming a general notion of falsehood, the mind of the Greek thinker
12 Intro|         the popular definition of falsehood or error. If we were met
13 Intro|      Thirdly, he seems to confuse falsehood with negation. Nor is he
14 Intro|         to identify negation with falsehood, or is unable to distinguish
15 Intro|      admitting the possibility of falsehood. To the Parmenides, the
16 Intro|     admitted, no one can speak of falsehood, or false opinion, or imitation,
17 Intro|         could be no such thing as falsehood, because there was no such
18 Intro|        there was no such thing as falsehood. At length falsehood has
19 Intro|           as falsehood. At length falsehood has been discovered by us
20 Intro|     distinction between truth and falsehood, between the Sophist and
21  Soph|         any one say or think that falsehood really exists, and avoid
22  Soph|        STRANGER: He who says that falsehood exists has the audacity
23  Soph|     implied in the possibility of falsehood. But, my boy, in the days
24  Soph|           sense, if any degree of falsehood is to be possible.~STRANGER:
