 1  IV,  3|         the man is thought to be proud who thinks himself worthy
 2  IV,  3|         is foolish or silly. The proud man, then, is the man we
 3  IV,  3|     little is temperate, but not proud; for pride implies greatness,
 4  IV,  3|          they had been less? The proud man, then, is an extreme
 5  IV,  3|        with respect to which the proud man is as he should be.
 6  IV,  3|  argument it is with honour that proud men appear to be concerned;
 7  IV,  3|       and in comparison with the proud man’s claims. The vain man
 8  IV,  3|          but does not exceed the proud man’s claims.~Now the proud
 9  IV,  3|      proud man’s claims.~Now the proud man, since he deserves most,
10  IV,  3|        most. Therefore the truly proud man must be good. And greatness
11  IV,  3|        to be characteristic of a proud man. And it would be most
12  IV,  3|         be most unbecoming for a proud man to fly from danger,
13  IV,  3|         the utter absurdity of a proud man who is not good. Nor,
14  IV,  3| Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it is impossible without
15  IV,  3|       dishonours, then, that the proud man is concerned; and at
16  IV,  3|      then, as has been said, the proud man is concerned with honours;
17  IV,  3|     others must be so too. Hence proud men are thought to be disdainful.~
18  IV,  3|         entitled to the name of "proud"; for these things imply
19  IV,  3|         please. They imitate the proud man without being like him,
20  IV,  3|          despise others. For the proud man despises justly (since
21  IV,  3|         who has done it, but the proud man wishes to be superior),
22  IV,  3|    received. It is a mark of the proud man also to ask for nothing
23  IV,  3|         is characteristic of the proud man not to aim at the things
24  IV,  3|          it is not the part of a proud man to have a long memory,
25  IV,  3|         is thought proper to the proud man, a deep voice, and a
26  IV,  3|   excitement.~Such, then, is the proud man; the man who falls short
