1 I, 1 | RHETORIC the counterpart of Dialectic. Both alike are concerned 2 I, 1 | distinction, is the business of dialectic, either of dialectic as 3 I, 1 | of dialectic, either of dialectic as a whole or of one of 4 I, 1 | draws opposite conclusions: dialectic and rhetoric alone do this. 5 I, 1 | but is as universal as dialectic; it is clear, also, that 6 I, 1 | as it is the function of dialectic to discern the real and 7 I, 1 | or his moral purpose. In dialectic it is different: a man is 8 I, 2 | rhetoric is an offshoot of dialectic and also of ethical studies. 9 I, 2 | fact, it is a branch of dialectic and similar to it, as we 10 I, 2 | outset. Neither rhetoric nor dialectic is the scientific study 11 I, 2 | apparent proof: just as in dialectic there is induction on the 12 I, 2 | cases, this is induction in dialectic, example in rhetoric; when 13 I, 2 | this is called syllogism in dialectic, enthymeme in rhetoric. 14 I, 2 | type; and this is true of dialectic also. Dialectic does not 15 I, 2 | true of dialectic also. Dialectic does not construct its syllogisms 16 I, 2 | syllogisms treated of in dialectic. One sort of enthymeme really 17 I, 2 | syllogism really belongs to dialectic; but the other sort really 18 I, 2 | away from pure rhetoric or dialectic. This statement will be 19 I, 2 | science that is distinct from dialectic and rhetoric. One may succeed 20 I, 2 | science will be no longer dialectic or rhetoric, but the science 21 I, 4 | politics; and it is partly like dialectic, partly like sophistical 22 I, 4 | more we try to make either dialectic rhetoric not, what they 23 II, 22| it and the syllogism of dialectic. Thus we must not carry 24 II, 22| syllogistic proof and disproof in dialectic.
