SEINNIBH DON TIGHEARNA

O SING TO THE LORD is an original composition by the local bard Donald John MacDonald, Peninerine. The music is also original and was composed by Ishbel T. MacDonald. The music is available in the hymn book Seinnibh dhan Tighearna.

This is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.

O seinnibh don Tighearna
Le òrain is dàin,
O seinnibh don Tighearna
Thug buaidh air a' bhàs.
O seinnibh don Tighearna -
Dha ainm gu robh cliù;
Sruth fuarain na fìrinn,
Nach dìobair ar cùis.

O sing to the Lord
with songs and hymns
O sing to the Lord
who overcame death
O sing to the Lord -
to his name be honour;
flowing fountain of truth,
that will never forsake our cause.

O èisdeadh gach nàisean
Le àrdachadh suim
An sgeul a chaidh fhàgail,
Thug sàbhaladh dhuinn;
An Dia rinn an saoghal,
Na daoins na bheil ann,
Dhuinn bhuannaich E Pàrras
Le bhàs air a Chrann.

O listen each nation
with heightened attention
The news that was given us
that gave us salvation;
The God who made the world
mankind and everything in it
He won for us eternity
through his death on the cross

Cumhachd is mòrachd
Is glòir gu robh dhà
Ar Tighearna bith-bhuan
A thug buaidh air a bhàs.
O seinnibh le sòlas,
Le òran as ùr,
Do dh ùghdar ar dòchais,
Ar beòshlaints ar dùil.

Power and majesty
and glory to him
The Lord who is eternal
who conquered death
O sing with joy
with a new song
to the author of our hope
our life and expectation.

O seinnibh le aoibhneas
An laoidh seo don
Tha riaghladh os àirde
Le gràsan na sìth.
Biodh ainm na ar cànan
Ro àrd ann an luach,
S nuair ghlaodhas E null sinn
Bidh n crùn dhuinn na dhuais.

O sing with gladness
this hymn to the One
who reigns supreme
with the grace of peace.
May his name in our speech
be of highest esteem
And when he calls us to himself
May the crown be our reward.
