THA SINN, A DHIA, A' SEINN DO CHLIU
This hymn is
loosely based on the English hymn, HOLY GOD WE PRAISE THY NAME, and with the
same melody. The last two lines in the Gaelic hymn are repeated.
|
This
is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.
|
Tha sinn, a Dhia, a'seinn do chlìu,
Ag
aideachadh gur Tu ar Triath;
Toirt
urraim dhut tha'n domhan mòr,
Athair
gun tùs, gun chrìoch.
|
We, O God, are singing your praise,
Confessing
that you are our God;
The
world is offering worship to you,
Father
without beginning, without end
|
Is Tus , a Chrìosda, Rìgh na Glòir;
Is
Tu Mac sìorraidh gun tùs,
Nach
d' rinn tàir air com na h-Oigh
Gu
sàbhaladh a cheannach dhuinn.
|
You, O Christ, are king of Glory;
You
are eternal son without beginning,
who
did not disdain the virgin's womb
to win
for us salvation
|
Thug Thu buaidh air guin a bhais:
Dh'
fhosgail Thu dhad chreidich Nèamh.
‘S
Tu tha 'n glòir Athair nan gras,
Nad
shuidhe air deas-làimh Dhè.
|
You conquered the sharpness of death:
You opened
heaven for the your faithful.
You
are in Glory, Father of grace,
Sitting
at God's right hand.
|
Dèan tròcair oirnn, a Dhia nan gràs:
Rèir
ar n-earbsa, dean tròcair oirnn.
Mo
dhòchas tha unnads a-mhàin:
A
chaoidh cha bhi fàillinn orm.
|
Have mercy on us, O God of grace:
According
to our trust, have mercy on us.
My
hope is in you alone:
Never
shall I fail.
