THA SINN A SEASAMH AIG AN T-SOISGEUL

THIS IS THE THIRD HYMN OF THE PARAPHRASE OF THE MASS. When the Mass was in Latin, this hymn would be sung at the GOSPEL - We are standing at the Gospel - These hymns are still sung in parishes in the Islands. They were composed by Father Allan MacDonald. The references to the different parts of the Mass are found on the page containing the FIRST PART. (IntraText editor note: Hymn 036)

This is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.

Tha sinn a seasamh aig an t-soisgeul
Gu bhith deas gu chur an gnoimh;
Cha toir nàir no eagal oirnne
Cul a chur ri creideamh Chriosd.
S daor a cheannaich Mac na h-Oighe
An creideamh glormhors ro mhor fhiach;
Cha choimeas idir luach an oir
Ris an fhuil a dhoirt o chliabh.

We are standing at the Gospel
prepared to put it into effect;
Shame or fear will not make us
abandon the faith of Christ.
Dear did the Virgin's Son purchase
the glorious and priceless faith;
the value of gold does not compare
with the blood spilt from his heart.
