ANAM CHRIOSDA

THIS IS THE SEVENTH HYMN OF THE PARAPHRASE OF THE MASS. When the Mass was in Latin, this hymn would be sung at the COMMUNION- This is a translation of a well known prayer - ANIMA CHRISTI - SOUL OF CHRIST, SANCTIFY ME - These hymns are still sung in parishes in the Islands. They were composed by Father Allan MacDonald. The references to the different parts of the Mass are found on the page containing the FIRST PART. (IntraText editor note: Hymn 036)

This is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.

Anam Chriosda, naomhaich mi.
A Chuirp Chriosda, sabhail mi.
Fhuil Chriosda, sathaich mi.
Uisge bho thaohh Chriosda, glan mi.
A Phàis Chriosda, neartaich mi.
Iosa mhath, gu grasmhor eisd rium.
Ann ad lotan falaich mi.
Na fuiling mo sgaradh bhuat.
Bho namhaid aingidh teasraig mi.
Aig uair mo bhais gairm mi.
Agus ordaich mi thighinn gud ionnsaigh.
Gu bhith maille rid naoimh a toirt cliu dhut
Fad shaoghal nan saoghal. Amen.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, satisfy me.
Water from Christ's side, wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me.
In your wounds, hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from you
From the wicked enemy, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me
And bid me come to you.
That with your saints I may praise you
For ever and ever. Amen
