CEUD FAILT', A SHACRAMAID NAM BUADH

CEUD FAILT', A SHACRAMAID NAM BUADH, is based on the hymn O SALUTARIS and has the same melody. In the past this hymn would be sung during Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The hymn was composed by St. Thomas Aquinas (d. 1274) and translated by D. C. MacPherson.

This is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.

Ceud Fàilt', a Shàcramaid nam buadh
A dh'fhosgail doras Nèimh don t-sluagh;
Tha sinn gar claoidh a'cath rir nàmh -
Thoir neart dhuinn; furtaich oirnn nar càs

Hail, O Sacrament of victory
that opened heaven's door for all;
We wearily contend with our enemy
Strengthen us, help us in our need.

Sìor-ghlòir do Dhia, na Thriùirs na Aon:
An t-Athair, am Macs an Spiorad Naomh;
O deònaich dhuinn a bheatha shìor
An sòlas Nèimh fad shaogh'l gun chrìoch.

Glory to God, as One and Three:
The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
Grant us true life
in heavenly light for ever unending.
