CHRIDHE GHAOLAICH IOSA
This is another popular hymn in the Islands.
It is a version of SWEET HEART OF JESUS and has the same melody. It was
translated into Gaelic by Father John MacMillan of Barra (1880 - 1951). The
author of the original English version is unknown.
|
This is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.

Chrìdhe
ghaolaich Iosa, fhuarain gaoil is tròcair,
Tha sinn an diugh a's sireadh dìon do rùin;
O buail gach crìdh' tha fuar ‘s a tha mì-thaingeil
Is dèan dhut fhèin e, Iosa Dhia nan Dùl.
|
Sweet
heart of Jesus, fount of love and mercy,
Today we come thy blessing to implore;
O touch our hearts so cold and so ungrateful
And make them yours, Jesus God of the elements.
|
Seisd
Chrìdhe ghaolaich Iosa, adhradh agus glòir,
Deònaich dhuinne daonnan gaol thoirt dhut rir beò.
|
chorus
Sweet heart of Jesus, worship and glory,
May we always love you throughout our lives.
|
Chrìdhe ghaolaich
Iosa, fàg sinn caomh is cùbhraidh,
Is thoir dhuinn neart do thoil a chur an gnìomh,
A leantainn dlùth ri lorgan naomh do chùrsa;
‘S ma thuiteas sinn, O tog sinn suas led ghaol.
|
Sweet
heart of Jesus, make us kind and gentle,
And give us strength to do your will,
Following close the holy steps of your way;
And if we fall, uplift us with your love.
|
Chrìdhe
ghaolaich Iosa, beannaich na bheir cliù dhut,
Oir ‘s beannaicht daonnan Crìdhe gaolach Dhè;
Beannaich sinn, ‘s gach aon tha 'n teaghlach naomh ar creideimh,
‘S fàg dìleas sinn dhut fhèin ‘s do Mhoire mhìn.
|
Sweet
heart of Jeus, bless all who praise you,
May the sweet heart of God be always blessed;
Bless us, and all those who are of the holy family of your faith,
And make us faithful to you and to Mary.
