SAN ARAN SEO, A DHE

San aran seo, A Dhe, is based on the hymn IN BREAD WE BRING YOU, LORD. It also has the same melody. This translation into Gaelic was made by Paul MacInnes from the English version written by Kevin Nichols who also wrote the melody.

This is a loose translation of the
hymn. It's purpose is simply to give
the English sense of the words.

San aran seo, a Dhè,
Ar saothair thorrach;
San fhìon seo tairgse
Shamhlaicheas ar deòir.
Chan i ar ceist, a Dhè,
e mo nàbaidh,
Ach aonaichte gach guth
A' seinn do ghlòir.
Tha aoibhneas oirnn, a Dhè,
Mu sgeul an t-Soisgeil,
S a-nis le taingealachd
Gach gibht seo bhuainn.
Thoir furtachd dhuinn, a Dhè,
Nuair tha sinn lapach,
S gach anam gu robh leat
Gu sìorraidh buan.

In this bread, O God,
is the fruit of our labour;
In this offered wine
shadows of our tears.
It is not for us to ask, O God,
Who is my neighbour,
but to unite each voice
to sing your praise.
We are joyful, O God,
With the message of the Gospel
And now with thanksgiving
each gift we offer.
Grant us your help, O God,
As we are in need,
And to each soul that belongs to you
grant eternal life

Tha'n t-aran brist', a Dhè,
Ler n-uile bheannachd;
Is biadh na slàinte e
Don spiorad bhrùit'.
Tha d'Fhacal naomh ga ghlaodh
Os cionn na cailis;
Thoir dhuinn an-diugh, mar thiodhlac,
D'Fhuil, ‘s na diùlt.
Gabh ris gach dragh is driop
Nar saothair làitheil,
Gabh aire do ar strì
S ar smuaintean faoin';
Gach uair a rinneadh
Dearmad ort is dìmeas,
Aig do shuipear
Math, a Dhè, gach aon.

The bread is broken, O God,
With our every blessing;
It is food to heal
our wounded spirit.
Your holy word is spoken
over the chalice;
Give us today, as a gift,
your blood, with no reservation.
Take all our worries and concerns
in our daily toil,
Take note of our struggle
and vain thoughts;
Each time we have
forgotten or neglected you,
At your sacred meal
forgive, O God, each one of us.
