Qual già su 'l Xanto il furibondo Achille

fe' del sangue troian crescer quell'onda,

o Ippomedonte a le tebane ville

fe' de l'Asopo insanguinar la sponda,

tal il giovane fier l'onde tranquille

fa rosseggiar del sangue ostil che gronda:

ma da la tanta copia infastidita

diede la Musa a pochi nomi vita.
