Liber V

Prologus: Idem Poeta

Aesopi nomen sicubi interposuero,
cui reddidi iam pridem quicquid debui,
auctoritatis esse scito gratia;
ut quidam artifices nostro faciunt saeculo,
qui pretium operibus maius inveniunt novis
si marmori adscripserunt Praxitelen suo,
detrito Myn argento, tabulae Zeuxidem.
Adeo fucatae plus vetustati favet
invidia mordax quam bonis praesentibus.
Sed iam ad fabellam talis exempli feror.
