  1  I             |              angel again spake to him: 'O thou covered! Rise up and
  2  I             |                drew he near and hovered o'er! until he was two bows'
  3  I             |                 words  aiyuha 'nnâs, 'O ye folk!' occur, while the
  4  I,       II   |               God is mighty over all.~ ~O ye folk! serve your Lord
  5  I,       II   |              the wise.' Said the Lord, 'O Adam declare to them their
  6  I,       II   |             misbelievers. And we said, 'O Adam dwell, thou and thy
  7  I,       II   |               dwell therein for aye.'~ ~O ye children of Israel! remember
  8  I,       II   |                 Him will they return.~ ~O ye children of Israel! remember
  9  I,       II   |              Moses said to his people, 'O my people! Ye have wronged
 10  I,       II   |                 when ye said to Moses, 'O Moses! we will not believe
 11  I,       II   |                    And when they said, 'O Moses, we cannot always
 12  I,       II   |           better, had they but known.~ ~O ye who believe! say not '
 13  I,       II   |                they who lose thereby.~ ~O children of Israel! remember
 14  I,       II   |           therein, and Jacob (saying), 'O my sons! verily, God has
 15  I,       II   |              and do not misbelieve 3.~ ~O ye who do believe! seek
 16  I,       II   |              who believe love God more. O that those, who are unjust
 17  I,       II   |              forth from out the fire.~ ~O ye folk! eat of what is
 18  I,       II   |                 shall not understand.~ ~O ye who do believe! eat of
 19  I,       II   |             these are those who fear.~ ~O ye who believe! Retaliation
 20  I,       II   |              retaliation is there life, O ye possessors of minds!
 21  I,       II   |               forgiving and merciful.~ ~O ye who believe! There is
 22  I,       II   |               kind unto His servants.~ ~O ye who believe! enter ye
 23  I,       II   |              does what He will.~ ~[255] O ye who believe! expend in
 24  I,       II   |              God is rich and clement.~ ~O ye who believe! make not
 25  I,       II   |               mayhap ye will reflect.~ ~O ye who believe! expend in

 40  I,      III   |              the while ye witness them? O people of the Book! why
 41  I,      III   |      independent of the worlds.~ ~Say, 'O people of the Book! why
 42  I,      III   |                 of what ye do?'~ ~Say, 'O people of the Book! why
 43  I,      III   |         careless of what ye do.'~ ~[95] O ye who believe! if ye obey
 44  I,      III   |            guided into the right way.~ ~O ye who believe! fear God
 45  I,      III   |                themselves they wrong.~ ~O ye who believe! take not
 46  I,      III   |         forgiving and merciful.~ ~[125] O ye who believe! devour not
 47  I,      III   |               God doth love the kind.~ ~O ye who believe! if ye obey

 50  I,      III   |                at reckoning up.~ ~[200] O ye who believe! be patient

 52  I,       IV   |              prepared a grievous woe.~ ~O ye who believe! it is not
 53  I,       IV   |                 man was created weak.~ ~O ye who believe! devour not
 54  I,       IV   |               hide the news from God.~ ~O ye who believe! approach
 55  I,       IV   |            believe except a few.~ ~[50] O ye who have been given the
 56  I,       IV   |              God both hears and sees.~ ~O ye who believe! obey God,
 57  I,       IV   |                God knows well enough.~ ~O ye who believe! take your
 58  I,       IV   |       friendship between you and him - 'O would that I had been with
 59  I,       IV   |           stronger fear, and they say, 'O our Lord! why hast thou
 60  I,       IV   |                 for him a mighty woe.~ ~O ye who believe! when ye
 61  I,       IV   |               He can make ye pass away, O men! and can bring others;-
 62  I,       IV   |              God both hears and sees.~ ~O ye who believe! be ye steadfast
 63  I,       IV   |               do is well aware.~ ~[135] O ye who believe! believe
 64  I,       IV   |               not find for him a way.~ ~O ye who believe! take not
 65  I,       IV   |                is easy enough to God!~ ~O ye folk! the Apostle has
 66  I,       IV   |                 God is knowing, wise.~ ~O ye people of the Book! do
 67  I,       IV   |                patron or a help.~ ~ ./. O ye folk! proof has come

 71  I,        V   |              nature of men's breasts.~ ~O ye who believe! stand steadfast
 72  I,        V   |                 fellows of hell.~ ~ ./. O ye who believe! remember
 73  I,        V   |               of what they have done.~ ~O ye people of the Book! our
 74  I,        V   |             unto Him the journey is.'~ ~O people of the Book! our
 75  I,        V   |              Moses said to his people, 'O my people! remember the
 76  I,        V   |               to anybody in the worlds. O my people! enter the Holy
 77  I,        V   |               losers:' [25] They said, 'O Moses! verily, therein is
 78  I,        V   |                 believers.' They said, 'O Moses! we shall never enter

 85  I,        V   |             them-bad is what they do.~ ~O thou Apostle! preach what
 86  I,        V   |                 who misbelieve.~ ~Say, 'O people of the Book! ye rest
 87  I,        V   |                  but the Messiah said, 'O children of Israel! worship
 88  I,        V   |                hears and knows.~ ~Say, 'O people of the Book! exceed
 89  I,        V   |            therein; and they will say, 'O our Lord! we believe, so
 90  I,        V   |              are the fellows of hell.~ ~O ye who believe! forbid not
 91  I,        V   |             haply ye may be grateful.~ ~O ye who believe! verily,
 92  I,        V   |               those who do good.~ ~[95] O ye who believe! God will
 93  I,        V   |              for him is grievous woe.~ ~O ye who believe! kill not
 94  I,        V   |            please thee.' Fear God then, O ye who have minds! haply
 95  I,        V   |                 haply ye may prosper.~ ~O ye who believe! ask not
 96  I,        V   |          nothing and were not guided.~ ~O ye who believe! mind yourselves;
 97  I,        V   |                 ye do not know.~ ~[105] O ye who believe! let there

117  I,      VII   |               obvious error.' Said he, 'O my people! there is no error
118  I,      VII   |               brother Hûd 2, who said, 'O my people! serve God, ye
119  I,      VII   |              the liars.' [65] He said, 'O my people! there is no folly
120  I,      VII   |              brother Zâli'h, who said, 'O my people! worship God;
121  I,      VII   |                of their Lord and said, 'O Zâli'h! bring us what thou
122  I,      VII   |               away from them and said, 'O my people! I did preach
123  I,      VII   |                  Sho'hâib 1, who said, 'O my people! serve God, ye
124  I,      VII   |                 a surety turn thee out, O Sho'hâib! and those who
125  I,      VII   |           knowledge;-on God do we rely. O our Lord! open between us
126  I,      VII   |               away from them and said, 'O my people! I preached to
127  I,      VII   |               evildoers!~ ~Moses said, 'O Pharaoh! verily, I am an
128  I,      VII   |              nigh unto me.' They said, 'O Moses! wilt thou cast down (
129  I,      VII   |                when they come to us.~ ~'O our Lord! pour out upon
130  I,      VII   |                 the plague, they said, 'O Moses! call upon thy Lord
131  I,      VII   |                 their idols, and said, 'O Moses! make for us a god
132  I,      VII   |               spake unto him, he said, 'O my Lord! show me,-that I
133  I,      VII   |              are resigned.'~ ~He said, 'O Moses! verily, I have chosen
134  I,      VII   |              towards him, but he said, 'O son of my mother! verily,
135  I,      VII   |                people.' [150] He said, 'O Lord! pardon me and my brother,
136  I,      VII   |          earthquake took them he said, 'O my Lord! hadst Thou willed,
137  I,      VII   |                the prosperous.'~ ~Say, 'O ye folk! verily, I am the
138  I,     VIII   |             torment of the Fire.~ ~[15] O ye who believe! when ye
139  I,     VIII   |              with the believers!~ ~[20] O ye who believe! obey God
140  I,     VIII   |               and have swerved aside.~ ~O ye who believe! answer God
141  I,     VIII   |             haply ye may give thanks.~ ~O ye who believe! be not treacherous
142  I,     VIII   |          God-with Him is mighty hire!~ ~O ye who believe! if ye fear
143  I,     VIII   |                        When they said, 'O God! if this be truth, and

165  I,        X   |          pardoning and merciful!~ ~Say, O ye people! there has come
166  I,       XI   |              you liars!' [30] He said, 'O my people! let us see! if
167  I,       XI   |                are averse therefrom?~ ~'O my people! I do not ask
168  I,       XI   |                people who are ignorant. O my people! who will help
169  I,       XI   |              the unjust.'~ ~They said, 'O Noah! thou hast wrangled
170  I,       XI   |                son who had gone aside, 'O my boy! ride with us and
171  I,       XI   |          drowned 2.~ ~And it was said, 'O earth! swallow down thy~ ~ ./.

187  I,       XI   |                 of an encompassing day. O my people! give measure
188  I,       XI   |                over you.'~ ~They said, 'O Sho'hâib! Do thy prayers
189  I,       XI   | straight-forward one!'~ ~[90] He said, 'O my people! Do ye see? If
190  I,       XI   |              rely, and unto Him I turn. O my people! let not a breach

230 II,     XVII   |                of compassion, and say, 'O Lord! have compassion on
231 II,     XVII   |           laudable station.~ ~And say, 'O my Lord! make me enter with
232 II,     XVII   |                   Verily, I think thee, O Moses! enchanted.'~ ~He
233 II,     XVII   |              and, verily, I think thee, O Pharaoh! ruined.'~ ~[105]

235 II,    XVIII   |               people.'~ ~[85] We said, 'O DHu 'l Qarnâin! thou mayest
236 II,    XVIII   |                     speech. They said, 'O DHu 'l Qarnâin! verily,
237 II,      XIX   |                my Lord! acceptable.'~ ~'O Zachariah! verily, we give
238 II,      XIX   |              wast nothing.'~ ~Said he, 'O my Lord! make for me a sign.'
239 II,      XIX   |                morning and evening!'~ ~'O John! take the Book with
240 II,      XIX   |               palm tree, and she said, 'O that I had died before this,
241 II,      XIX   |                carrying it; said they, 'O Mary! thou hast done an
242 II,      XIX   |                 an extraordinary thing! O sister of Aaron 1! thy father

250 II,       XX   |                Said He, 'Throw it down, O Moses!' and he threw it
251 II,       XX   |                art granted thy request, O Moses! and we have already
252 II,       XX   |                hither) at (our) decree, O Moses! And I have chosen
253 II,       XX   |                   And who is your Lord, O Moses?'~ ~He said, 'Our

255 II,       XX   |              upper hand.'~ ~Said they, 'O Moses! either thou must
256 II,       XX   |           astray and were not guided.~ ~O children of Israel! We have
257 II,       XX   |                on away from thy people, O Moses?'~ ~He said, 'They
258 II,       XX   |              grieving!~ ~ ./. Said he, 'O my people! did not your
259 II,       XX   |            Aaron too told them before, 'O my people! ye are only being
260 II,       XX   |                back to us.'~ ~Said he, 'O Aaron! what prevented thee,
261 II,       XX   |              bidding?'~ ~[95] Said he, 'O son of my mother! seize
262 II,       XX   |               he, 'What was thy design, O Sâmarîy?' Said he, 'I beheld
263 II,       XX   |             decided for thee; but say, 'O Lord! increase me in knowledge 2.'~ ~
264 II,       XX   |              who refused. And we said, 'O Adam! verily, this is a
265 II,       XX   |             whispered to him. Said he, 'O Adam! shall I guide thee
266 II,      XXI   |                questioned.' Said they, 'O woe is us! verily, we were
267 II,      XXI   |                  they will surely say, 'O, woe is us! verily, we were
268 II,      XXI   |               who did this to our gods, O Abraham?' Said he, 'Nay,
269 II,      XXI   |            going to do so!'~ ~We said, 'O fire! be thou cool and a
270 II,      XXI   |                he cried unto his Lord, 'O Lord! leave me not alone;
271 II,      XXI   |                of those who misbelieve! O, woe is us! we were heedless
272 II,     XXII   |                and compassionate God.~ ~O ye folk! fear your Lord.
273 II,     XXII   |             torment of the blaze!~ ~[5] O ye folk! if ye are in doubt
274 II,     XXII   |                 was the return.~ ~Say, 'O ye folk! I am naught but
275 II,     XXII   |                 journey shall it be!'~ ~O ye folk! a parable is struck
276 II,     XXII   |              unto God affairs return.~ ~O ye who believe! bow down
277 II,    XXIII   |               his people, and he said, 'O my people! worship God,

292 II,    XXVII   |                 the ants. Said an ant, 'O ye ants! go into your dwellings,
293 II,    XXVII   |               at her speech, and said, 'O Lord! excite me to be thankful
294 II,    XXVII   |              they return.'~ ~Said she, 'O ye chiefs! verily, a noble
295 II,    XXVII   |                me resigned!" She said, 'O ye chiefs! pronounce sentence

316 II,   XXXIII   |                 a mighty hire 5!'~ ~30] O ye women of the prophet!
317 II,   XXXIII   |                her a noble provision.~ ~O ye women of the prophet!
318 II,   XXXIII   |                 all things doth know!~ ~O ye who believe! remember
319 II,   XXXIII   |                for them a noble hire.~ ~O thou prophet! verily, we
