   1  I             |           READ! in the name of thy Lord, who did create -~ Who did
   2  I             |    congealed blood.~ READ! for thy Lord is the most generous,~ Who
   3  I             |          Rise up and warn! and thy Lord magnify! and thy garments
   4  I             |         gain increase; and for thy Lord await 1!'~ ~And now the
   5  I             |           them guidance from their Lord!'~ ~This incident is denied

  76  I,       II   |         become spoiled, but God is Lord of grace over the worlds.~ ~
  77  I,       II   |    disputed with Abraham about his Lord, that God had given him
  78  I,       II   |             When Abraham said, 'My Lord is He who giveth life and
  79  I,       II   |            And when Abraham said, 'Lord, show me how thou wilt revive

 116  I,      III   |         you on a sudden, now, your Lord will assist you with five
 117  I,      III   |       another for pardon from your Lord, and for Paradise, the breadth

 119  I,      III   |       their word was only to say, 'Lord, forgive us~ ~ ./. our sins
 120  I,      III   |           losers. Nay, God is your Lord, He is the best of helpers.
 121  I,      III   |           pardoned you, for God is Lord of grace unto believers,-
 122  I,      III   |        dead, but living with their Lord;-provided for, rejoicing
 123  I,      III   |        pleasure of God, and God is Lord of mighty grace.~ ~It is
 124  I,      III   |          heavens and the earth. 'O Lord! thou hast not~ ~ ./. created
 125  I,      III   |           the torment of the fire! Lord! verily, whomsoever Thou
 126  I,      III   |        none to help them.~ ~[190] 'Lord! verily, we heard a crier
 127  I,      III   |            faith, "Believe in your Lord," and we did believe. Lord!

 138  I,       IV   |          has come to you from your Lord, and we have sent down to
 139  I,        V   |           craving grace from their Lord and His pleasure.~ ~ ./. 
 140  I,        V   |       therein; so, go thou and thy Lord and fight ye twain; verily,
 141  I,        V   |           down here.' Said he, 'My Lord, verily, I can control only
 142  I,        V   |             verily, I fear God the Lord of the worlds; verily, I
 143  I,        V   |         sent down to thee from thy Lord will surely increase many
 144  I,        V   |            down to them from their Lord, they should eat from above
 145  I,        V   |          revealed to thee from thy Lord; if thou do it not thou
 146  I,        V   |          revealed to you from your Lord.' But what has been revealed
 147  I,        V   |          revealed to thee from thy Lord will of a surety increase
 148  I,        V   |            Israel! worship God, my Lord and your Lord,' verily,

 167  I,       VI   |           a manifestation, from my Lord, which ye call a lie, I
 168  I,       VI   |          resign ourselves unto the Lord of the worlds, and be ye
 169  I,       VI   |         star and said, 'This is my Lord;' but when it set he said, '
 170  I,       VI   |          rise he said, 'This is my Lord;' but when it set he said, '
 171  I,       VI   |            set he said, 'If God my Lord guides me not I shall surely
 172  I,       VI   |          rise he said, 'This is my Lord, this is greatest of all;'
 173  I,       VI   |       associate with Him unless my Lord should wish for anything.
 174  I,       VI   |       should wish for anything. My Lord doth comprehend all things
 175  I,       VI   |          whom we will; verily, thy Lord is wise and knowing. And
 176  I,       VI   |         There is God for you,-your Lord! There is no god but He,
 177  I,       VI   |           has an insight from your Lord come unto you, and he who
 178  I,       VI   |          revealed to thee from thy Lord; there is no god but He,
 179  I,       VI   |        their work, then unto their Lord is their return, and He
 180  I,       VI   |           lead astray; but had thy Lord pleased they would not have
 181  I,       VI   |           it is sent down from thy Lord, in truth? be thou not then
 182  I,       VI   |              115] The words of thy Lord are fulfilled in truth and
 183  I,       VI   |         rest on) conjecture.~ ~Thy Lord, He knows best who errs
 184  I,       VI   |     without knowledge. Verily, thy Lord knows best the transgressors.~ ~[
 185  I,       VI   |          abode of peace; and their Lord, He is their patron for
 186  I,       VI   |          mankind shall say, 'O our Lord! much advantage had we one
 187  I,       VI   |           God pleases; verily, thy Lord is wise and knowing.'~ ~
 188  I,       VI   |                That is because thy Lord would never destroy towns
 189  I,       VI   |            they have done; and thy Lord is not careless of that
 190  I,       VI   |          that which they do.~ ~Thy Lord is rich, merciful; if He
 191  I,       VI   |   transgressing,-then, verily, thy Lord is forgiving and merciful.'~ ~
 192  I,       VI   |           thee the lie, say, 'Your Lord is of ample mercy, nor shall
 193  I,       VI   |             or those who for their Lord make peers.~ ~Say, 'Come!
 194  I,       VI   |            I will recite what your Lord has forbidden you, that
 195  I,       VI   |            in the meeting of their Lord they will believe.~ ~This
 196  I,       VI   |           manifest sign from their Lord, and a guidance and a mercy;
 197  I,       VI   |         come for them, or that thy Lord should come, or that some
 198  I,       VI   |           that some signs 1 of thy Lord should come? On the day
 199  I,       VI   |     wronged.~ ~Say, 'As for me, my Lord has guided me to the right
 200  I,       VI   |           death belong to God, the Lord of the worlds. He has no
 201  I,       VI   |            God shall I crave for a Lord when He is Lord of all?'
 202  I,       VI   |        crave for a Lord when He is Lord of all?' but no soul shall
 203  I,       VI   |        another; and then unto your Lord is your return, and He will
 204  I,       VI   |           brought you;-verily, thy Lord is swift to punish, but,
 205  I,      VII   |          revealed to you from your Lord, and follow not beside Him
 206  I,      VII   |          shame, and he said, 'Your Lord has only forbidden you this
 207  I,      VII   |           of the garden. And their Lord called unto them, 'Did I
 208  I,      VII   |            foe?' They said, 'O our Lord! we have wronged ourselves-and
 209  I,      VII   |           do not know?'~ ~Say, 'My Lord bids only justice:-set steadfastly

 222  I,      VII   |            you the messages .of my Lord, and I give you sincere
 223  I,      VII   |           you a reminder from your Lord by a man from amongst yourselves,
 224  I,      VII   |           I am an apostle from the Lord of the worlds; I preach
 225  I,      VII   |           you the messages of your Lord; and, verily, I am to you
 226  I,      VII   |           you a reminder from your Lord by a man from amongst yourselves,
 227  I,      VII   |            fall upon you from your Lord horror and wrath; do ye
 228  I,      VII   |            manifest sign from your Lord. This she-camel of God's
 229  I,      VII   |            Zâli'h is sent from his Lord?' They said, 'We do believe
 230  I,      VII   |       against the bidding of their Lord and said, 'O Zâli'h! bring
 231  I,      VII   |           to you the message of my Lord, and I gave you good advice!
 232  I,      VII   |            manifest sign from your Lord; then give good weight and
 233  I,      VII   |       thereto, unless that God our Lord should please? our Lord
 234  I,      VII   |            Lord should please? our Lord embraces everything in His
 235  I,      VII   |           on God do we rely. O our Lord! open between us and between
 236  I,      VII   |          to you the messages of my Lord, and I gave you good advice;
 237  I,      VII   |           I am an apostle from the Lord of the worlds; it is not
 238  I,      VII   |            a manifest sign from my Lord; send then the children
 239  I,      VII   |           they, 'We believe in the Lord of the worlds, the Lord
 240  I,      VII   |            Lord of the worlds, the Lord of Moses and Aaron!' [120]
 241  I,      VII   |         said, 'Verily, we unto our Lord return! nor dost thou take
 242  I,      VII   |        believe in the signs of our Lord, when they come to us.~ ~'
 243  I,      VII   |          they come to us.~ ~'O our Lord! pour out upon us patience,
 244  I,      VII   |           he, 'It may be that your Lord will destroy your foe, and
 245  I,      VII   |             O Moses! call upon thy Lord for us, as He has covenanted
 246  I,      VII   |           and the good word of thy Lord was fulfilled on the children
 247  I,      VII   |           a mighty trial from your Lord.~ ~And we appointed for
 248  I,      VII   |          the time appointed by his Lord was completed to forty nights.
 249  I,      VII   |           our appointment, and his Lord spake unto him, he said, '
 250  I,      VII   |           unto him, he said, 'O my Lord! show me,-that I may look
 251  I,      VII   |        shalt see me;' but when his Lord appeared unto the mountain
 252  I,      VII   |         they said, 'Verily, if our Lord have not compassion on us
 253  I,      VII   |      hasten on the bidding of your Lord?' and he threw down the
 254  I,      VII   |         people.' [150] He said, 'O Lord! pardon me and my brother,
 255  I,      VII   |        reach them wrath from their Lord, and abasement in the life
 256  I,      VII   |           and believe,-verily, thy Lord, after that, is forgiving
 257  I,      VII   |          for those who dread their Lord.~ ~And Moses chose from
 258  I,      VII   |           took them he said, 'O my Lord! hadst Thou willed, Thou
 259  I,      VII   |        said, 'As an excuse to your Lord, that haply they may fear.' [
 260  I,      VII   |         and spurned!' and then thy Lord proclaimed that He would
 261  I,      VII   |          evil torment; verily, thy Lord is quick at following up,
 262  I,      VII   |          may fear.'~ ~And when thy Lord took from the children of
 263  I,      VII   |         themselves, 'Am I not your Lord?' They said, 'Yea! we do
 264  I,      VII   |            thereof is only with my Lord; none shall manifest it
 265  I,      VII   |          heavy they called on God, Lord of them both, 'Surely if
 266  I,      VII   |            is inspired to me by my Lord.~ ~ ./. paragraph continues]
 267  I,      VII   |            are perceptions from my Lord, and a guidance and a mercy
 268  I,      VII   |          mercy.~ ~And remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and
 269  I,      VII   |       Verily, they who are with my Lord are not too big with pride
 270  I,     VIII   |        them in faith; and on their Lord do they rely; who are steadfast
 271  I,     VIII   |        them are degrees with their Lord, and forgiveness, and a
 272  I,     VIII   |            provision.~ ~[5] As thy Lord caused thee to go forth
 273  I,     VIII   |        asked for succour from your Lord, and He answered you, 'I
 274  I,     VIII   |           footsteps 2.~ ~When your Lord inspired the angels - 'Verily,
 275  I,     VIII   |            forgive you; for God is Lord of mighty grace.~ ~[30]
 276  I,     VIII   |         then know that God is your Lord; a good Lord is He, and
 277  I,     VIII   |           God is your Lord; a good Lord is He, and a good help;
 278  I,       IX   |            is who are happy. Their Lord gives them glad tidings
 279  I,       IX   |     written down for us; He is our Lord, and upon God believers
 280  I,       IX   |           Him do I rely, for He is Lord of the mighty throne!'~ ~ ~ ~
 281  I,        X   |        gone before them with their Lord?' The misbelievers say, '
 282  I,        X   |          sorcerer!'~ ~Verily, your Lord is God, who created the
 283  I,        X   |           That is God for you-your Lord! Then worship Him-do ye
 284  I,        X   |            do what is right, their Lord guides them by their faith;
 285  I,        X   |       Praise (belongs) to God, the Lord of the worlds!'~ ~And if
 286  I,        X   |        fear, if I rebel against my Lord, the torment of a mighty
 287  I,        X   |            had it not been for thy Lord's word already passed, there
 288  I,        X   |        sent down upon him from his Lord?' Say, 'The unseen is only
 289  I,        X   |             That is God, your true Lord! and what is there~ ~ ./. 
 290  I,        X   |            Thus is the word of thy Lord verified against those who
 291  I,        X   |          no doubt therein-from the Lord of the worlds.~ ~Do they
 292  I,        X   |            believe therein but thy Lord knows best who are corrupters.~ ~ ./. 
 293  I,        X   |          be true. Say, 'Aye, by my Lord! verily, it is the truth,
 294  I,        X   |            you a warning from your Lord, and a balm for what is
 295  I,        X   |   resurrection day? Verily, God is Lord of grace towards men, but
 296  I,        X   |       weight of an atom escape thy Lord in earth or in heaven; nor
 297  I,        X   |         Upon God do we rely. O our Lord! make us not a cause of
 298  I,        X   |     believe.'~ ~Moses said, 'O our Lord! verily, Thou hast brought
 299  I,        X   |          life of this world; O our Lord! that they may err from
 300  I,        X   |            err from Thy way! O our Lord! confound their wealth and
 301  I,        X   |         the knowledge. Verily, thy Lord shall decide between them
 302  I,        X   |           is come to thee from thy Lord, be not then of those who
 303  I,        X   |           for a while. But had thy Lord pleased, all who are in
 304  I,        X   |            you the truth from your Lord, and he who is guided, his
 305  I,       XI   |           ye seek pardon from your Lord, then turn again to Him!
 306  I,       XI   |           a manifest sign from his Lord, which is a witness from
 307  I,       XI   |       verily, it is truth from thy Lord, though most men do not
 308  I,       XI   |          shall be set before their Lord, and the witnesses shall
 309  I,       XI   |          is who lied against their Lord.' Aye! God's curse is on
 310  I,       XI   |         humble themselves to their Lord, they are the fellows of
 311  I,       XI   |            a manifest sign from my Lord, and there come to me mercy
 312  I,       XI   |      verily, they shall meet their Lord. But I see you, a people
 313  I,       XI   |         you into error. He is your Lord, and unto Him shall ye be
 314  I,       XI   |            its mooring. Verily, my Lord is forgiving and merciful.'~ ~
 315  I,       XI   |             And Noah went unto his Lord and said, 'My Lord, verily,
 316  I,       XI   |        unto his Lord and said, 'My Lord, verily, my son is of my
 317  I,       XI   |            ignorant.' He said, 'My Lord, verily, I seek refuge in
 318  I,       XI   |         people! ask pardon of your Lord; then turn to Him; He will
 319  I,       XI   |        Verily, I rely upon God, my Lord and your Lord. There is
 320  I,       XI   |         upon God, my Lord and your Lord. There is no beast that
 321  I,       XI   |           its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the right way!~ ~[
 322  I,       XI   |           sent to you with; and my Lord will make another people
 323  I,       XI   |        harm Him at all; verily, my Lord is guardian over all!'~ ~
 324  I,       XI   |          denied the signs of their Lord, and rebelled against His
 325  I,       XI   |           not 'Âd disbelieve their Lord? Aye! away with 'Âd the
 326  I,       XI   |           again to Him: verily, my Lord is nigh and answers!'~ ~[
 327  I,       XI   |            a manifest sign from my Lord, and there come from Him
 328  I,       XI   |         upon that day. Verily, thy Lord He is powerful and mighty.~ ~[
 329  I,       XI   |         indeed disbelieve in their Lord? Aye! away with Thamûd!~ ~
 330  I,       XI   |         verily, the bidding of thy Lord has come; verily, there
 331  I,       XI   |          are the messengers of thy Lord, they shall certainly not
 332  I,       XI   |        another, marked 4, from thy Lord, and these are not so far
 333  I,       XI   |            a manifest sign from my Lord, and He provides me from
 334  I,       XI   |            pardon, then, from your Lord, then turn to Him; verily,
 335  I,       XI   |            turn to Him; verily, my Lord is merciful, loving!~ ~They
 336  I,       XI   |      behind your backs? Verily, my Lord, whate'er ye do, doth comprehend. [
 337  I,       XI   |            once the bidding of thy Lord had come; nor did they add
 338  I,       XI   |            downfall!~ ~Thus is thy Lord's overtaking when He overtakes
 339  I,       XI   |        earth endure; save what thy Lord will. Verily, thy Lord is
 340  I,       XI   |         thy Lord will. Verily, thy Lord is one who works His will.~ ~[
 341  I,       XI   |        earth endure; save what thy Lord will 1,-a ceaseless boon!~ ~
 342  I,       XI   |        that had been passed by thy Lord, it would have been decided
 343  I,       XI   |         But, verily, every one thy Lord will surely repay for their
 344  I,       XI   |            and were sinners.~ ~Thy Lord would not have destroyed
 345  I,       XI   |         welldoers.~ ~[120] Had thy Lord pleased, He would have made
 346  I,       XI   |          to differ, save those thy Lord has had mercy on. For this
 347  I,       XI   |          them, and the word of thy Lord is fulfilled, 'I will surely
 348  I,       XI   |           and rely on Him; for thy Lord is not heedless of that
 349  I,      XII   |         open foe.'~ ~Thus does thy Lord choose thee, and teach thee
 350  I,      XII   |     Abraham and Isaac,-verily, thy Lord is knowing, wise!~ ~In Joseph
 351  I,      XII   |          Refuge in God! verily, my Lord has made good my abiding
 352  I,      XII   |         the demonstration 2 of his Lord; thus did we turn evil and
 353  I,      XII   |           the small!' Said he, 'My Lord! Prison is dearer to me
 354  I,      XII   |       among the ignorant!' And his Lord answered him and turned
 355  I,      XII   |          That is (some) of what my Lord has taught me; verily, I
 356  I,      XII   |        shall pour out wine for his lord: and as for the other, he
 357  I,      XII   |         two, 'Remember me with thy lord!' But Satan made him 2 forget
 358  I,      XII   |      forget the remembrance of his lord, so he tarried in prison
 359  I,      XII(2)|           to mention Joseph to his lord Pharaoh, or that Satan made
 360  I,      XII(2)|          forget for the moment his Lord God, and place his trust
 361  I,      XII   |            he said, Go back to thy lord, and ask him, "What meant
 362  I,      XII   |            their hands? Verily, my lord knows their craftiness!"'~ ~
 363  I,      XII   |       urgent to evil, save what my Lord has had mercy on; verily,
 364  I,      XII   |           had mercy on; verily, my Lord is forgiving and merciful!'~ ~
 365  I,      XII   |         ask pardon for you from my Lord; verily, He is the pardoning
 366  I,      XII   |            my vision aforetime; my Lord has made it come true, and
 367  I,      XII   |            my brethren;-verily, my Lord is kind to whomsoever He
 368  I,      XII   |         knowing, the wise!~ ~'O my Lord! thou hast given me dominion,
 369  I,     XIII   |         sent down to thee from thy Lord is the truth; but most people
 370  I,     XIII   |           of the meeting with your Lord ye will be sure.~ ~And He
 371  I,     XIII   |            who disbelieve in their Lord, and these are they with
 372  I,     XIII   |          away before them: but thy Lord is possessor of forgiveness
 373  I,     XIII   |        injustice; but, verily, thy Lord is keen to punish.~ ~Those
 374  I,     XIII   |        sent down upon him from his Lord . . .'-Thou art only a warner,
 375  I,     XIII   |            and eve.~ ~Say, 'Who is Lord of the heavens and the earth?'
 376  I,     XIII   |         those who respond to their Lord is good; but those who respond
 377  I,     XIII   |            down upon thee from thy Lord like him who is blind? Only
 378  I,     XIII   |          attained, and dread their Lord and fear the evil reckoning
 379  I,     XIII   |         are patient, craving their Lord's face, and are steadfast
 380  I,     XIII   |        sent down upon him from his Lord . . .' Say, 'God leads whom
 381  I,     XIII   |           merciful! Say, 'He is my Lord; there is no god but He;
 382  I,      XIV   |             by permission of their Lord, unto the way of the mighty
 383  I,      XIV   |            trial for you from your Lord. When your Lord proclaimed, '
 384  I,      XIV   |          from your Lord. When your Lord proclaimed, 'If ye give
 385  I,      XIV   |           to our faith!' And their Lord inspired them, 'We will
 386  I,      XIV   |            who disbelieve on their Lord,-their works are as ashes
 387  I,      XIV   |            the permission of their Lord; their salutation therein
 388  I,      XIV   |         And when Abraham said, 'My Lord, make this land 1 safe,
 389  I,      XIV   |           from serving idols!~ ~My Lord, verily, they have led many
 390  I,      XIV   |        merciful!~ ~ ./. 40] 'O our Lord! verily, I have made some
 391  I,      XIV   |          thy Sacred House 1. O our Lord! let them be steadfast in
 392  I,      XIV   |          may give thanks.~ ~'O our Lord! verily, Thou knowest what
 393  I,      XIV   |      Ishmael and Isaac!-verily, my Lord surely hears prayer.~ ~'
 394  I,      XIV   |       surely hears prayer.~ ~'O my Lord! make me steadfast in prayer,
 395  I,      XIV   |            my seed likewise! O our Lord! and accept my prayer! O
 396  I,      XIV   |            accept my prayer! O our Lord! pardon me and my parents
 397  I,      XIV   |            wrong shall say, 'O our Lord! respite us until an appointed
 398  I,      XIV   |         verily, God is mighty, the Lord of vengeance; on the day
 399  I,       XV   |            And, verily, it is your Lord who will gather you; verily,
 400  I,       XV   |     smokeless fire.~ ~And when thy Lord said to the angels, Verily,
 401  I,       XV   |        judgment.'~ ~Said he, 'O my Lord! respite me until the day
 402  I,       XV   |            time.'~ ~He said, 'O my Lord! for that Thou hast seduced
 403  I,       XV   |        despair of the mercy of his Lord save those who err?' He
 404  I,       XV   |         fair pardon.~ ~Verily, thy Lord He is the creator, the knowing!
 405  I,       XV   |          the Qur'ân.~ ~But, by thy Lord! we will question them,
 406  I,       XV   |       celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and be thou of those who
 407  I,       XV   |         who adore.~ ~And serve thy Lord until the certainty shall
 408  I,      XVI   | wretchedness of soul;-verily, your Lord is kind and merciful.~ ~
 409  I,      XVI   |        them, 'What is it that your Lord has sent down?' they say, '
 410  I,      XVI   |         God, 'What is it that your Lord has sent down?' They will
 411  I,      XVI   |         take them off, or that thy Lord's bidding should come?-thus
 412  I,      XVI   |            patient, and upon their Lord rely!~ ~[45] And we have
 413  I,      XVI   |     destruction? for, verily, your Lord is kind, merciful.~ ~[50]
 414  I,      XVI   |           pride!~ ~They fear their Lord above them, and they do
 415  I,      XVI   |           join partners with their Lord.~ ~That they may disbelieve
 416  I,      XVI   |         have sense!~ ~[70] And thy Lord inspired the bee, 'Take
 417  I,      XVI   |            the beaten paths of thy Lord;' there cometh forth from
 418  I,      XVI   |           nothing, a burden to his lord; wherever he directs him
 419  I,      XVI   |        partners with God say, 'Our Lord! these be our partners on
 420  I,      XVI   |         believe and who upon their Lord rely. His power is only
 421  I,      XVI   |           brought it down from thy Lord in truth, to stablish those
 422  I,      XVI   |        losers.~ ~Then, verily, thy Lord, to those who fled 1 after
 423  I,      XVI   |          were patient,-verily, thy Lord after that will be forgiving
 424  I,      XVI   |             120] Then, verily, thy Lord to those who have done evil
 425  I,      XVI   |           done aright,-verily, thy Lord afterwards is forgiving
 426  I,      XVI   |          thereon; but, verily, thy Lord will judge~ ~ ./. between
 427  I,      XVI   |           Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and goodly warning;
 428  I,      XVI   |           kindest way; verily, thy Lord He knows best who has erred
 429 II,     XVII   | destruction.'~ ~It may be that thy Lord will have mercy on you;-
 430 II,     XVII   |        seek after plenty from your Lord, and that ye may number
 431 II,     XVII   |      destroyed after Noah! but thy Lord of the sins of his servant
 432 II,     XVII   |            extend the gifts of thy Lord; for the gifts of thy Lord
 433 II,     XVII   |         Lord; for the gifts of thy Lord are not restricted.~ ~See
 434 II,     XVII   |       despised and forsaken.~ ~Thy Lord has decreed that ye shall
 435 II,     XVII   |            compassion, and say, 'O Lord! have compassion on them
 436 II,     XVII   |           when I was little!' Your Lord knows best what is in your
 437 II,     XVII   |          is ever ungrateful to his Lord.~ ~[30] But if thou dost
 438 II,     XVII   |          seek after mercy from thy Lord 1, which thou hopest for,
 439 II,     XVII   |   straitened in means. Verily, thy Lord spreads out provision to
 440 II,     XVII   |          evil in the sight of your Lord and abhorred.~ ~That is
 441 II,     XVII   |           is something of what thy Lord has inspired thee with of
 442 II,     XVII   |            outcast. What! has your Lord chosen to give you sons,
 443 II,     XVII   |        they seek a way against the Lord of the throne.'~ ~[45] Celebrated
 444 II,     XVII   |          mention in the Qur'ân thy Lord by Himself they turn their
 445 II,     XVII   |            man an open foe.~ ~Your Lord knows you best; if He please
 446 II,     XVII   |          charge of them.~ ~And thy Lord best knows who is in the
 447 II,     XVII   |         means of approaching their Lord, (to see) which of them
 448 II,     XVII   |         verily, the torment of thy Lord is a thing to beware of.~ ~[
 449 II,     XVII   |         said to thee, 'Verily, thy Lord encompasses men!' and we
 450 II,     XVII   |           authority over them; thy Lord is guardian enough over
 451 II,     XVII   |           over them!'~ ~It is your Lord who drives the ships for
 452 II,     XVII   |        service. It may be that thy Lord will raise thee to a laudable
 453 II,     XVII   |          station.~ ~And say, 'O my Lord! make me enter with a just
 454 II,     XVII   |           his own manner, but your Lord knows best who is most guided
 455 II,     XVII   |         comes at the bidding of my Lord, and ye are given but a
 456 II,     XVII   |         unless by a mercy from thy Lord; verily, His grace towards
 457 II,     XVII   |    Celebrated be the praises of my Lord! was 1 aught but a mortal
 458 II,     XVII   |      treasuries of the mercy of my Lord, then ye would hold them
 459 II,     XVII   |           sent down these save the Lord of the heavens and the earth
 460 II,     XVII   |          the praises~ ~ ./. of our Lord! verily, the promise of
 461 II,     XVII   |         verily, the promise of our Lord is ever fulfilled"-they
 462 II,    XVIII   |          the cave and said, 'O our Lord! bring us mercy from Thee,
 463 II,    XVIII   |       youths who believed in their Lord, and we added to their guidance,
 464 II,    XVIII   |            stood up and said, 'Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens
 465 II,    XVIII   |         and said, 'Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth,
 466 II,    XVIII   |         resort ye to the cave. Our Lord will unfold His mercy to
 467 II,    XVIII   |           a day.' They said, 'Your Lord knows best your tarrying;
 468 II,    XVIII   |          building over them, their Lord knows best about them;'
 469 II,    XVIII   |           was their dog.' Say, 'My Lord knows best the number of
 470 II,    XVIII   |          please;' and remember thy Lord when thou hast forgotten,
 471 II,    XVIII   |            say, 'It may be that my Lord will guide me to what is
 472 II,    XVIII   |            with of the Book of thy Lord; there is no changing His
 473 II,    XVIII   |          those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, desiring
 474 II,    XVIII   |             The truth is from your Lord, so let him who will, believe;
 475 II,    XVIII   |        even I be sent back unto my Lord, I shall find a better one
 476 II,    XVIII   |           a man; but God, He is my Lord; nor will I associate any
 477 II,    XVIII   |          associate any one with my Lord. Why couldst thou not have
 478 II,    XVIII   |         and children; but haply my Lord will give me something better
 479 II,    XVIII   |         associated any one with my Lord!' And he had not any party
 480 II,    XVIII   |          works are better with thy Lord, as a recompense, and better
 481 II,    XVIII   |           they be presented to thy Lord in ranks.-Now have ye come
 482 II,    XVIII   |            they have done; and thy Lord will not wrong any one.~ ~
 483 II,    XVIII   |            from the bidding of his Lord. 'What! will ye then take
 484 II,    XVIII   |        from asking pardon of their Lord, except the coming on them
 485 II,    XVIII   |       reminded of the signs of his Lord, turns away therefrom, and
 486 II,    XVIII   |           then for ever.~ ~But thy Lord is forgiving, endowed with
 487 II,    XVIII   |           So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange
 488 II,    XVIII   |           righteous man, and their Lord desired that they should
 489 II,    XVIII   |       treasure as a mercy from thy Lord; and I did it not on my
 490 II,    XVIII   |       shall he be sent back to his Lord, and He will torment him
 491 II,    XVIII   |        rampart?' He said, 'What my Lord hath established me in is
 492 II,    XVIII   |            This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of
 493 II,    XVIII   |         but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make
 494 II,    XVIII   |        dust, for the promise of my Lord is true.'~ ~And we left
 495 II,    XVIII   |   misbelieve in the signs of their Lord and in meeting Him, vain
 496 II,    XVIII   |            ink for the words of my Lord, the sea would surely fail
 497 II,    XVIII   |        fail before the words of my Lord fail; aye, though we brought
 498 II,    XVIII   |          him who hopes to meet his Lord act righteous acts, and
 499 II,    XVIII   |        none iii the service of his Lord.'~ ~ ./. 
 500 II,      XIX   |           H. Z. The mention of thy Lord's mercy to His servant Zachariah,
 501 II,      XIX   |   Zachariah, when he called on his Lord with a secret calling. Said
 502 II,      XIX   |       secret calling. Said he, 'My Lord! verily, my bones are weak,
 503 II,      XIX   |          in my prayers to Thee, my Lord! [5] But I fear my heirs
 504 II,      XIX   |            Jacob, and make him, my Lord! acceptable.'~ ~'O Zachariah!
 505 II,      XIX   |          before 1.'~ ~Said he, 'My Lord! how can I have a son, when
 506 II,      XIX   |            He said, 'Thus says thy Lord, It is easy for Me, for
 507 II,      XIX   |         nothing.'~ ~Said he, 'O my Lord! make for me a sign.' He
 508 II,      XIX   |            only a messenger of thy Lord to bestow on thee a pure
 509 II,      XIX   |            He said, 'Thus says thy Lord, It is easy for Me! and
 510 II,      XIX   |          her, 'Grieve not, for thy Lord has placed a stream beneath
 511 II,      XIX   |             and, verily, God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship
 512 II,      XIX   |            God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him; this is
 513 II,      XIX   |       forgiveness for thee from my Lord; verily, He is very gracious
 514 II,      XIX   |       beside God, and will pray my Lord that I be not unfortunate
 515 II,      XIX   |     unfortunate in my prayer to my Lord.'~ ~[50] And when he had
 516 II,      XIX   |     acceptable in the sight of his Lord.~ ~And mention, in the Book,
 517 II,      XIX   |          the bidding~ ~ ./. of thy Lord; His is what is before us,
 518 II,      XIX   |          is between those; for thy Lord is never forgetful,-the
 519 II,      XIX   |            is never forgetful,-the Lord of the heavens and the earth,
 520 II,      XIX   |          was naught?'~ ~And by thy Lord! we will surely gather them
 521 II,      XIX   |         settled and decided by thy Lord 1.~ ~Then we will save those
 522 II,      XIX   |            works are best with thy Lord for a reward, and best for
 523 II,       XX   |            Moses! verily, I am thy Lord, so take off thy sandals;
 524 II,       XX   |        outrageous!'~ ~Said he, 'My Lord! expand for me my breast;
 525 II,       XX   |                They two said, 'Our Lord! verily, we fear that he
 526 II,       XX   |            are the apostles of thy Lord; send then the children
 527 II,       XX   |       brought thee a sign from thy Lord, and peace be upon him who
 528 II,       XX   |          Said he, 'And who is your Lord, O Moses?'~ ~He said, 'Our
 529 II,       XX   |            Moses?'~ ~He said, 'Our Lord is He who gave everything
 530 II,       XX   |       knowledge of them is with my Lord in a book; my Lord misleads
 531 II,       XX   |         with my Lord in a book; my Lord misleads not, nor forgets!~ ~ ./. 
 532 II,       XX   |           they, 'We believe in the Lord of Aaron and of Moses!'~ ~
 533 II,       XX   |          Verily, we believe in our Lord, that He may pardon us our
 534 II,       XX   |        Verily, he who comes to his Lord a sinner,-verily, for him
 535 II,       XX   |            hastened on to Thee, my Lord! that thou mightest be pleased.'~ ~
 536 II,       XX   |            my people! did not your Lord promise you a good promise?
 537 II,       XX   |      should light on you from your Lord, that ye have broken your
 538 II,       XX   |         thereby; and, verily, your Lord is the Merciful, so follow
 539 II,       XX   |         mountains;~ ~ ./. say, 'My Lord will scatter them in scattered
 540 II,       XX   |      decided for thee; but say, 'O Lord! increase me in knowledge 2.'~ ~
 541 II,       XX   |          Adam rebelled against his Lord, and went astray.~ ~[120]
 542 II,       XX   |           astray.~ ~[120] Then his Lord chose him, and relented
 543 II,       XX   |             125] He shall say, 'My Lord! wherefore hast Thou gathered
 544 II,       XX   |            not in the signs of his Lord; and the torment of the
 545 II,       XX   |            had it not been for thy Lord's word already passed (the
 546 II,       XX   |       celebrate the praises of thy Lord before the rising of the
 547 II,       XX   |           but the provision of thy Lord is better and more lasting.~ ~
 548 II,      XXI   |           comes to them from their Lord of late, but they listen
 549 II,      XXI   |            ye can see?'~ ~Say, 'My Lord knows what is said in the
 550 II,      XXI   |          be the praise of God, the Lord of the throne, above what
 551 II,      XXI   |          from the mention of their Lord do turn aside.~ ~Have they
 552 II,      XXI   |        blast of the torment of thy Lord touches them, they will
 553 II,      XXI   |            who are afraid of their Lord in secret; and who at the
 554 II,      XXI   |            He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is Lord of the heavens and
 555 II,      XXI   |              Nay, but your Lord is Lord of the heavens and the earth,
 556 II,      XXI   |          Job, when he cried to his Lord, 'As for me, harm has touched
 557 II,      XXI   |             when he cried unto his Lord, 'O Lord! leave me not alone;
 558 II,      XXI   |            cried unto his Lord, 'O Lord! leave me not alone; for
 559 II,      XXI   |          one nation; and I am your Lord, so serve me.~ ~ ./. But
 560 II,      XXI   |           for a season.~ ~Say, 'My Lord! judge thou with truth!
 561 II,      XXI   |           thou with truth! and our Lord is the Merciful whom we
 562 II,     XXII   |               O ye folk! fear your Lord. Verily, the earthquake
 563 II,     XXII   |      nigher than his profit,-a bad lord and a bad comrade.~ ~Verily,
 564 II,     XXII   |            who dispute about their Lord, but those who misbelieve,
 565 II,     XXII   |            better for him with his Lord.~ ~'Cattle are lawful for
 566 II,     XXII   |           for that they said, 'Our Lord is God;' and were it not
 567 II,     XXII   |             verily, a day with thy Lord is as a thousand years of
 568 II,     XXII   |           it is the truth from thy Lord, and may believe therein,
 569 II,     XXII   |          matter, but call upon thy Lord; verily, thou art surely
 570 II,     XXII   |          and adore, and serve your Lord, and do well, haply ye may
 571 II,    XXIII   |      people!"~ ~[30] 'And say, "My Lord! make me to alight in a
 572 II,    XXIII   |            in him!'~ ~Said he, 'My Lord! help me, for they call
 573 II,    XXIII   |          one nation, and I am your Lord; so fear me.~ ~[55] And
 574 II,    XXIII   |        shrink with terror at their Lord, [60] and those who in the
 575 II,    XXIII   |          who in the signs of their Lord believe, and those who with
 576 II,    XXIII   |           and those who with their Lord join none, and those who
 577 II,    XXIII   |        afraid that they unto their Lord will return,-these hasten
 578 II,    XXIII   |             but the tribute of thy Lord is better, for He is the
 579 II,    XXIII   |            themselves before their Lord, nor did they humble themselves;
 580 II,    XXIII   |         then mind?'~ ~Say, 'Who is Lord of the seven heavens, and
 581 II,    XXIII   |          of the seven heavens, and Lord of the mighty throne?'~ ~
 582 II,    XXIII   |          with Him!~ ~[95] Say, 'My Lord! if Thou shouldst show me
 583 II,    XXIII   |            they are threatened,-my Lord! then place me not amongst
 584 II,    XXIII   |             to thee). And say, 'My Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from
 585 II,    XXIII   |           one of them he says, 'My Lord! send ye me back 2, haply
 586 II,    XXIII   |         were lies!' They say, 'Our Lord! our misery overcame us,
 587 II,    XXIII   |            people who did err! Our Lord! take us out therefrom,
 588 II,    XXIII   |          my servants who said, Our Lord! we believe, so pardon us,
 589 II,    XXIII   |        there is no god but He, the Lord of the noble throne! and~ ~ ./. 
 590 II,    XXIII   |            his account is with his Lord; verily, the misbelievers
 591 II,    XXIII   |       shall not prosper. And say, 'Lord, pardon and be merciful,
 592 II,      XXV   |            for aye: that is of thy Lord a promise to be demanded.~ ~
 593 II,      XXV   |            will ye be patient? thy Lord doth ever look.~ ~And those
 594 II,      XXV   |          down to us, or we see our Lord . . !' They are too big
 595 II,      XXV   |            The Apostle said, 'O my Lord! verily, my people have
 596 II,      XXV   |         among the sinners; but thy Lord is good guide and helper
 597 II,      XXV   |        Hast thou not looked to thy Lord how He prolongs the shadow?
 598 II,      XXV   |     marriage relationship; for thy Lord is mighty.~ ~Yet they worship

 652 II,    XXVII   |           I am bidden to serve the Lord of this country who has

 654 II,   XXVIII   |          foe.'~ ~[15] Said he, 'My Lord! verily, I have wronged

 662 II,   XXVIII   |           yore.'~ ~Moses said, 'My Lord knows best who comes with
 663 II,   XXVIII   |         but it is a mercy from thy Lord, that~ ~ ./. thou mayest
 664 II,   XXVIII   |          and they should say, 'Our Lord! why didst thou not send
 665 II,   XXVIII   |            in it as truth from our Lord; verily, we were resigned
 666 II,   XXVIII   |          were the heirs.~ ~But thy Lord would never destroy cities
 667 II,   XXVIII   |    sentence is due shall say, 'Our Lord! these are those whom we
 668 II,   XXVIII   |            the prosperous. For thy Lord creates what He pleases
 669 II,   XXVIII   |          associate with Him!~ ~Thy Lord knows what they conceal
 670 II,   XXVIII   |          returning place. Say, 'My Lord knows. best who brings guidance,
 671 II,   XXVIII   |           save as a mercy from thy Lord! be not then a backer up
 672 II,   XXVIII   |            thee; but call unto thy Lord and be not of the idolaters;
 673 II,     XXIX   |          but if help come from thy Lord they will say, 'Verily,
 674 II,     XXIX   |             Verily, I flee unto my Lord! Verily, He is mighty, wise!
 675 II,     XXIX   |         the truth!'~ ~Said he, 'My Lord! help me against a people
 676 II,     XXIX   |            upon him signs from his Lord - ;' say, 'Verily, signs
 677 II,     XXIX   |        patient and rely upon their Lord!~ ~[60] How many a beast
 678 II,      XXX   |            in the meeting of their Lord do disbelieve.~ ~Have they
 679 II,      XXX   |           men they call upon their Lord, repentant towards Him;
 680 II,      XXX   |        associate others with their Lord, that they may disbelieve
 681 II,     XXXI   |         are in guidance from their Lord, and these are the prosperous.~ ~[
 682 II,     XXXI   |               O ye folk! fear your Lord and dread the day when the
 683 II,    XXXII   |            doubt therein, from the Lord of the worlds.~ ~Do they
 684 II,    XXXII   |           it is the truth from thy Lord, that thou mayest warn a
 685 II,    XXXII   |            in the meeting of their Lord they disbelieve.~ ~Say, '

 689 II,    XXXII   |     celebrate the praises of their Lord, and are not too big with
 690 II,    XXXII   |         beds, they call upon their Lord with fear and hope; and
 691 II,    XXXII   |       reminded of the signs of his Lord, and then turns away from

 709 II,    XXXIV   |           all.'~ ~Say, 'Verily, my Lord hurls forth the truth; and
 710 II,    XXXIV   |           guided it is all what my Lord inspires me: verily, He
 711 II,     XXXV   |            goal; that is God, your Lord! His is the kingdom; but
 712 II,     XXXV   |          warn those who fear their Lord in the unseen and who are
 713 II,     XXXV   |            the permission of their Lord; that is great grace.~ ~[
 714 II,     XXXV   |          us our grief; verily, our Lord is forgiving, grateful!
 715 II,     XXXV   |       shall shriek therein, 'O our Lord! bring us forth, and we
 716 II,     XXXV   |  misbelievers in hatred with their Lord; and their misbelief shall
 717 II,    XXXVI   |                15] They said, 'Our Lord knows that we are sent to

 757 II,    XXXIX   |             is not God mighty, the Lord of vengeance?~ ~And if thou
 758 II,    XXXIX   |           turn repentant unto your Lord, and resign yourselves to

 760 II,    XXXIX   |         beam with the light of its Lord, and the Book shall be set

 832 II,      XLV   |   misbelieve in the signs of their Lord, for them is torment of
 833 II,      XLV   |         against it; then unto your Lord shall ye be returned.~ ~[
 834 II,      XLV   |           mutual envy. Verily, thy Lord will decide between them
 835 II,      XLV   |           do righteous deeds their Lord will make them enter into
 836 II,      XLV   |            then is the praise, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord
 837 II,      XLV   |        Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth, the Lord of
 838 II,      XLV   |         the Lord of the earth, the Lord of the worlds! His is the
 839 II,     XLVI   |        Verily, those who say, 'Our Lord is God,' and then keep straight,
 840 II,     XLVI   |     reaches forty years, he says, 'Lord! stir me up that I may be
 841 II,     XLVI   |     everything at the order of its Lord!' And in the morning naught
 842 II,     XLVI   |            shall say, 'Yea, by our Lord!' He shall say, 'Then taste
 843 II,    XLVII   |            is the truth from their Lord,-He will cover for them

 849 II,       LI   |         springs, taking what their Lord brings them. Verily, they

 851 II,       LI   |          Said they, 'Thus says thy Lord, He is knowing, wise.' Said
 852 II,       LI   |           of clay, marked from thy Lord for the extravagant 4.'~ ~[
 853 II,       LI   |       against the bidding of their Lord; and the noise caught them
 854 II,      LII   |         verily, the torment of thy Lord will come to pass;-there
 855 II,      LII   |      pleasure, enjoying what their Lord has given them; for their
 856 II,      LII   |          has given them; for their Lord will save them from the
 857 II,      LII   |          art, by the favour of thy Lord, neither a soothsayer nor
 858 II,      LII   |          they the treasures of thy Lord? or are they the governors
 859 II,      LII   |            for the judgment of thy Lord, for thou art in our eyes.
 860 II,      LII   |       celebrate the praises of thy Lord what time thou risest, and
 861 II,     LIII   |       greatest of the signs of his Lord.~ ~Have ye considered Allât
 862 II,     LIII   |           them guidance from their Lord.~ ~Shall man have what he
 863 II,     LIII   |          of knowledge; verily, thy Lord knows best who has erred
 864 II,     LIII   |         venial faults,-verily, thy Lord is of ample forgiveness;
 865 II,     LIII   |          reward; and that unto thy Lord is the limit; [45] and that
 866 II,     LIII   |             50] and that He is the Lord of the Dog-star 2, and that
 867 II,     LIII   |         them!~ ~Which then of your Lord's benefits do ye dispute?~ ~
