 1     I|               BOOK I~ PROEM~ ~ Mother of Rome, delight of Gods
 2     I|     have~ Each its unalterable mother old?~ But, since produced
 3    II|     wise could offspring know~ Mother, nor mother offspring -
 4    II|    offspring know~ Mother, nor mother offspring - which we see~
 5    II| streams of blood; the orphaned mother,~ Ranging meanwhile green
 6    II|       beasts.~ Wherefore great mother of gods, and mother of beasts,~
 7    II|      great mother of gods, and mother of beasts,~ And parent of
 8    II|       land,~ The image of that mother, the divine.~ Her the wide
 9    II|  antique rite,~ Do name Idaean Mother, giving her~ Escort of Phrygian
10    II|    violate~ The majesty of the mother and have proved~ Ingrate
11    II|        like the snow~ Upon the Mother and her companion-bands.~
12    II|        his jaws,~ And give its mother an eternal wound~ Along
13    II|   armed they escort the mighty Mother,~ Or else because they signify
14    II|        to go on calling earth~ Mother of Gods, if only he will
15    II|     whom earth,~ The fostering mother, as she takes the drops~
16   III|       when still buried in the mother's womb;~ So no dissevering
17    IV|        seed paternal, and from mother's body~ Exist created males:
18     V|    birth-pangs from within the mother's womb,~ And with a plaintive
19     V|        on Zephyr's foot-prints Mother Flora,~ Sprinkling the ways
20     V|  adopted name~ Of earth - "The Mother!" - since from out the earth~
21     V|    adopted name of Earth - The Mother! -~ Since she herself begat
22     V|   hands.~ But Nature herself,~ Mother of things, was the first
23     V|     clownish foot~ To beat our Mother Earth - from whence arose~
