 1    II|            regions 'twas that grain began~ Through all the world.
 2     V|           what mode~ The human race began to name its things~ And
 3     V|            above~ And earth beneath began of old in time~ And shall
 4     V|        world.~ And whilom water too began to win -~ As goes the story -
 5     V|            But from there~ Portions began to fly asunder, and like~
 6     V|             the mid-region, and all began to take~ The lowest abodes;
 7     V|             heat and air~ Escaping, began to fly aloft, and form,~
 8     V|            the heavens.~ The plains began to sink, and windy slopes~
 9     V|          then first the human race~ Began to soften. For 'twas now
10     V|         fire and new devices. Kings began~ Cities to found and citadels
11     V|         Then from the boiling veins began to ooze~ O rivulets of silver
12     V|            punch and drill. And men began such work~ At first as much
13     V|         copper men to work the soil began,~ With copper to rouse the
14     V|            of yesterday.~ And thus~ Began the loathing of the acorn;
15     V| Confederates and allies, when poets began~ To hand heroic actions
16    VI|           the fences of man's life~ Began to topple. From the mouth
17    VI|         guiders of curved ploughs,~ Began to sicken, and their bodies
